According to media reports, Zakir Hussain inherited the talent of playing Tabla from his father Allah Rakha. His father instilled the sound and rhythm of Tabla in Zakir’s ears after his birth. In an interview about 8 years ago, Zakir said, “When he was brought home after his birth, his father welcomed him by blowing the tune of Tabla in his ears instead of praying.”

“When I was brought home for the first time after birth and was placed in my father’s lap, as per the tradition of the house, while holding the child in the lap, one has to recite some good and prayer in the ear.
